I'm looking to find more information on the baccalauréat in france.
Its the examen french students must take in order to go to college. They only have two chances to pass it. Without this exam there is no chance for them to go to college.
In have found some basic info. on wikipedia... but if any of you have any further information that might help that would be great!
Merci Beaucoup!!
Hello! Being a lurker for quite some time, I thought I might post this here. I've had this idea for some time of a site where you can practice ALL languages in the form of short (~100-200 words) random posts in that language (about your day, intro about you, whatever you like) and others fluent/more fluent in the language could correct any mistakes or point out any ways to improve. This is NOT homework help, and it's also not meant to be for asking questions about the language, like it is here, but just for open practice outside of school/etc. SO~ I'm looking for two types of people: a) those that are studying French and want to improve it through writing practice, and, b) those who know French quite well. Right now, it's only me writing there, but I invite people to take a look and see if it's something that interests you (and also, feel free to correct my French) here: Lingua FrancKa or in my NEW Lj comm: here. Thank you! :)
Salut! Merci! :)

Anyway, I've got an oral final exam coming up, and, out of the fifty questions my professor gave us to study, one is giving me a lot of trouble, and I have no idea why. It should be relatively simple, as the study sheet she gave us indicates that it was covered in the second chapter, but I haven't been able to locate it in our book.
So, does D'où venez-vous? mean "Where did you come from?", or am I completely off? The "D'" really threw me for a loop.
Typically, I wouldn't bother you guys with such a stupid little question, but even though I'm only required to answer six randomly selected questions of the fifty in the oral final, I've got a horrible feeling that this one question will end up on my oral final lineup. I've studied my ass off for this test and I would hate for this one stupid question to sabotage my grade.
Thank you. And if the mod thinks that this constitutes as cheating, feel free to remove this post.
Also, does anybody have any pointers on how to correctly pronounce réveillée (in je me suis réveillée). I think I have a basic idea, and I meant to ask my professor after the written final today, but it slipped my mind.
Thank you!

So there is the final update... Over the past day we have processed around 11 million jobs out of the 12 million that were in queue at that time. Please bear in mind that over this past day, more jobs for notifications are also created. So while the queue has been dropping, we are still not fully caught up at this point, due to backlog and new jobs. We have roughly 3 million jobs still pending that involve the notification system in some manner. We had hoped we could have fully cleared the queue in a day, but unfortunately we can't clear it too quickly, since we need the rest of the site to operate normally. From our current perspective on the amount of jobs that are left in queue, and how many it has processed thus far, we believe it will take around another 8 - 12 hours to process everything.
And finally some answers to some questions:

I'd like to watch some tv shows in French to help my listening comprehension, but I'm having trouble finding anything about French television. Can anyone suggest some? Preferably shows aimed at young people, or perhaps something historical.
Thanks!
If someone could help me out with translating this passage, I'd be so, so grateful! My french is really rusty. xD It's not for school or anything, just for personal interest.
Many thanks in advance :-)

I'm currently living in Toronto, and I decided it would be in my best interest for many reasons to pick up French. I've looked into tons of classes, all of which are out of my budget by a long shot ($300, no thanks). The cheapest I've found is through the Toronto District School Board, but it's only 9 weeks long for two hours per week. I don't know if that's worth it, because I think I'd have to take another level afterwards to get somewhat close to where I want to be.
So, for any FSL people, what are some really easy ways to learn? I took French from grade 4 to grade 9, and I enjoyed it and was fairly good at it (my grades were always in the mid 80s). But I went to help my sister with her French homework last year and I was shocked to find how much I've forgotten.
I'm pretty limited in what I can do right now though, financially. I'm in my last year of college and up for a position with the city. I think it would help my career a lot to know the language, since it's one of the official languages and I will be a government worker (at some point). I also want to go to Quebec for a couple of weeks at some point, and not be hideously embarrassed when I speak to anyone other than my boyfriend.
So basically, any tips or suggestions would be great. Especially from other Torontonians who know of specific (cheap) classes or anything.
Thanks!

Hey Everyone, we are about to run the last alter job that we need to on our database servers. This will effect userpics / scrapbook / vgift images for the next few hours. Have no fear, your images aren't lost, there is just a really intensive process running on the servers which store the information for mogilefs. Thank you for your understanding and all the LJ love...
Hey LJers,
I just wanted to let you all know that we are going to be performing some mogilefs maintenance over the next few days. We will be upgrading our current version to latest stable as well as changing some db config information to better handle the amount of files we are currently hosting. This shouldn't cause a big impact on site stability, but you may see some minor delays with userpic / scrapbook images appearing or other requests associated with our mogilefs. We would love to not have that happen, but unfortunately with some of the steps we need to take we have to cause a delay with images. I figured this was a better solution than taking down all of LiveJournal because well lets face it, we all need our daily LJ fix ;)
Thanks,
